Meet Zara Proudler and Middlesbrough College Jobshop

1. How long have you been working at E-Achieve?

1 Year next month.

2. What is your job title?

Employer Engagement Advisor.

3. What is the “Jobshop” at Middlesbrough College?

Middlesbrough College is committed to supporting  progression into employment.  A  “Jobshop” and “Employment Hub” are now fully operational providing a range of services to  employers, students and members of the public.

The MC Jobshop is situated at the Town Centre Entrance of the building for easy access. The MC Jobshop staff are able to help with employability skills and other employment related advice and a jobs board is available showing up to date and ‘real’ job opportunities.

The College is already working with hundreds of local employers, large and small, by providing pre-employment programmes for students who on successful completion of such programmes are guaranteed interviews connected to vacancies the employer has available. These growing opportunities will continue to  be advertised in the “MC Jobshop”. Within the MC Jobshop there is also access to an interactive iStop Kiosk, which is a self-service touch screen machine, which provides a selection of the latest job vacancies broken down by industry sector, locally and nationally.

The Employment Hub is a one stop shop for employers who want to work with Middlesbrough College. This will hopefully lead to employers being able to fill many of their vacancies with individuals who have successfully completed courses at Middlesbrough College and who are job ready and available for progression into employment. It also provides high quality be-spoke training, seminars and recruitment to meet your needs.

What are the opening times?

MC Jobshop is open Monday – Thursday 8.30am – 5.00pm and Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm

Who can attend it?

MC Jobshop is open to students and the public.

Can you tell us more about your work at the Jobshop at Middlesbrough College?

My role is support and guide people into employment. I presently manage a caseload of clients whom I work closely with to ensure they achieve a ‘Job Ready’ Status. I ensure clients have all the tools they need to move closer to work every day. I help with CV writing and enhancements, covering letters, Interview preparation and jobsearching. We also have the National Careers Service based within the Jobshop every Wednesday who is able to offer free careers advice and employability skills also. I work closely with the ‘Get the Edge’ team who offer a wide range of short courses that will help individuals ‘Get the Edge’ when applying to jobs. Individuals can learn new skills, update skills and increase confidence. The courses are free and will not affect benefits. I also work closely with the Apprenticeship team and there is a variety of apprenticeship vacancies available to the current students and the public.

Can you describe your normal day at the Jobshop?

The Jobshop is a busy hub with a variety of activities taking place. My typical day consists of seeing clients back to back on a 1-2-1 basis and offering IAG to footfall throughout the day. We have lots of interviews taking place from a variety of teams within the college for short courses and apprenticeship vacancies and also clients coming into the Jobshop to complete jobsearches using our Istop machine.

How can the “Jobshop” and its services benefit E-Achieve learners?

If you are looking for support with your journey to work, MC Jobshop are able to help, guide and support you in gaining essential tools to move you closer to your goal. It’s a free service and you will leave the jobshop a step closer to work after each appointment!

How can learners contact you and the “Jobshop”?
